Long range forces in quantum gravity.

چکیده
We calculate the leading quantum and semi-classical corrections to the Newtonian potential energy of two widely separated static masses. In this largedistance, static limit, the quantum behaviour of the sources does not contribute to the quantum corrections of the potential. These arise exclusively from the propagation of massless degrees of freedom. Our one-loop result is based on Modanese’s formulation and is in disagreement with Donoghue’s recent calculation. Also, we compare and contrast the structural similarities of our approach to scattering at ultra-high energy and large impact parameter. We connect our approach to results from string perturbation theory. Typeset using REVTEX 1

Gravitational forces from Bose-Einstein condensation
The basic idea that gravity can be a long-wavelength effect induced by the peculiar ground state of an underlying quantum field theory leads to consider the implications of spontaneous symmetry breaking through an elementary scalar field. We point out that Bose-Einstein condensation implies the existence of long-range order and of a gap-less mode of the (singlet) Higgs-field. This gives rise to...
متن کاملLong Range Forces from Quantum Field Theory at Zero and Finite Temperature
We discuss the derivation of Newtonian potentials in the framework of quantum field theory. We focus on two particular points: on long range forces i.e. forces which fall off as 1/rn being mediated by light quanta like neutrinos or Goldstone bosons and on possible temperature dependence of such forces arising in situations when the exchanged quanta are in a thermal heat bath. Examples of the la...
متن کاملInvasion Percolation in Presence of Gravity
Simultaneous capillary dominated displacement of the wetting and non-wetting phases are processes of interest in many disciplines including modeling of the penetration of polluting liquids in hydrology or the secondary migration in petroleum reservoir engineering. Percolation models and in particular invasion percolation is well suited to characterize the slow immiscible displaceme...
متن کاملUnification of Gravity and Quantum Theory
An overview of the four fundamental forces of physics as described by the Standard Model (SM) and prevalent unifying theories beyond it is provided. Background knowledge of the particles governing the fundamental forces is provided, as it will be useful in understanding the way in which the unification efforts of particle physics has evolved, either from the SM, or apart from it. It is shown th...
متن کاملConstraints on Non-Newtonian Gravity From the Experiment on Neutron Quantum States in the Earth’s Gravitational Field
An upper limit to non-Newtonian attractive forces is obtained from the measurement of quantum states of neutrons in the Earth's gravitational field. This limit improves the existing constraints in the nanometer range.
